Atosiban (Tractocile® or even Antocin®, RWJ 22164) is an inhibitor of the endocrine oxytocin and vasopressin, and is utilized intravenously in premature labor. Although initial studies suggested it can be utilized as a nose spray & hence would non call for hospital admission, these are non utilized in this form. It was developed by Ferring Pharmaceuticals in Sweden and first reported in the literature by Akerlund et al within 1985.

Chemically, these are a limited form of pitocin that inhibits the action of this internal secretion on the uterus, leading to a surcease of contractions. These are so the tocolytic.
